Where it all started.

We are a social enterprise established in 2017 by undergraduate students at the University of Edinburgh.

What do we do?

Our Edinburgh team does the crucial work of fundraising, introducing our pads to the UK market and outreach. With an already vast repertoire of past fundraising events and stalls, the team is constantly striving to create new ways to support the Her Shakti Centre and our beneficiaries.

  • Bringing our pads to Sanitree’s birthplace means we can not only help to reduce the cost of the pads in India, but also make a place for Sanitree to approach the period poverty that occurs more locally.

  • Through holding events like our popular club night “Heavy Flow” as well as speaker panels, pad-making workshops and pub quizzes, Sanitree raises awareness about the importance of reusable pads and about the wider cause.

    1. Contribute to Sanitree’s development

    2. Raise awareness of Sanitree’s work

    3. Financially support the Her Shakti Centre

Our beginnings.

Our founder Bharat set out to tackle period poverty in his hometown of Bhind. While at university, he formed Sanitree the social enterprise in September 2017 under the society Enactus Edinburgh. Our first goal is now complete: Sanitree ran our pilot scheme in Bhind by January 2018, which, through the skill of our beneficiaries there, is now totally self-sufficient.
