Frances Roberts | UK Executive Director
Frances joined Sanitree as a Team Leader (then Project-Leader) three years ago as a third year History student at the University of Edinburgh. Her major focus to introduce greater structure and support mechanisms in the team, were crucial at a time of post-covid recovery and have witnessed significant impacts in efficiency and productivity. Facing many challenges, continuous problem-solving became crucial to success in the role and has helped define her leadership style today.
She stayed in this role throughout her honours degree as well as taking on the role of Fundraising Manager in her fourth year, raising nearly £4,000 through successful grant applications. She has worked very closely with Ishu and the team in India and visited the Her Shakti Centre earlier this year. As the longest standing member in the UK team she is a significant asset to operations. In her new role as Executive UK Director, she has been focusing on Sanitree’s long-term strategy, which involves strengthening the team’s skill development through the delivery of workshops, supporting teams to adopt a long-term approach as well as writing our new set of governing documents.
She has been passionate about advocating for period dignity for many years, sparked by her time as Leader of the Feminist Society in her sixth form in Bristol where she was inspired by the activism of Amika George to organise period collection boxes around the school, and later her volunteer work in women’s livelihoods in south west Bangladesh. Alongside her capacity as Director, she has started a full-time job working for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as a Project Support Assistant on the Lancaster West Estate net-zero refurbishment project, her placement as part of the CharityWorks leadership training scheme in the nonprofit sector. Her time at Sanitree has ignited a passion for leadership, vision and innovation as an instrument for social change, which she hopes to take with her as she pursues a career in the sector.

Aro Reiley
CO-FOUNDER
I first met Ishu and her family in Jaipur in 2017. I went on to establish Sanitree later that year with friends at University, who had combined expertise in Indian social enterprise, reproductive health, and international business. After our first pilot project concluded, I saw an opportunity to relaunch with a more sustainable, community-oriented focus. When I took over from Bharat as Director, Ishu and I decided to work together, and Sanitree as we know it today took root.
My vision is that everyone who is part of the Sanitree ecosystem leaves with the tools they need to progress their communities. I hope we all carry forward our commitment to social, environmental, and menstrual justice. Ultimately, I hope that projects like Sanitree don't have to exist but, until then, I hope the space it occupies is a firmly rooted space for community and ecological renewal.

FORMER BUSINESS ADVISOR
I've been part of the Sanitree team since 2019 and got involved because I know there's a huge amount of stigma attached to menstruation in the UK and India. After being corralled into applying by Martha, I had a meeting with our director at the time, Amy, and was immediately on board with the project. Over the next year I'd like to see three things:
1. The Her Shakti Centre becoming an anchor institution for women, girls and those who menstruate.
2. Sanitree become the partner of choice to deliver impactful campaigns that ensure period dignity for our beneficiaries.
3. The Centre become financially sustainable based on a sound business model.

Amy Goodman
FORMER PROJECT LEADER
I joined Sanitree when it was just starting out in 2017. Working on communications and events, Sanitree's cause and values really resonated with me and I became more and more involved until Martha and I partnered with Ishu in 2019 and set up the Her Shakti Centre.
Becoming Director in September 2019, I lead an amazing team of 16 in business strategy, sales, marketing, communications and events. I am proudest of the train-the-trainer model which was implemented in the centre to empower beneficiaries into leadership positions. I hope that this will continue to ensure long term sustainability of Sanitree and that everyone joins the cloth pad revolution!
