Fighting for our right to bleed!
Our campaigns in Edinburgh work with the University, Scottish Parliament and the wider community promote cultural change to de-stigmatise mensuration.
We passed the bill!
The Scottish Parliament unanimously approved the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill on 24th November 2020 which makes Scotland the first country in the world to offer free period products to all. The Scottish government was set to oppose the Bill but we were part of a successful campaign lead by Monica Lennon which managed to turn the tide of public opinion.
Period poverty has finally been officially recognised in Scotland which Sanitree feels privileged to have been a part of. Here’s to being WORLD LEADERS in the struggle for dignity for all menstruators.
Our role in a more sustainable Scotland!
Last November Santiree was invited to consult on the Scottish Government's Circular Economy bill, having being recognised as a successful sustainable business. The Future of Menstrual Health in Scotland
We were honoured to have been invited to attend the Future of Menstrual Health in Scotland event at the Scottish Parliament. Our new outreach officer Caroline Newton attended on behalf of Sanitree and gained valuable insight from some of the leading menstrual health activists in the country.
Menstrual Rights Global teamed up with Monica Lennon and her team to deliver an important discussion that celebrated the success of the Period Products (Free Provision)(Scotland) Act 21, & look to the future of the movement in Scotland!
With >50 activists, educators, researchers, and policy makers from across Scotland (and beyond) as well as speakers: Victoria Heaney, Alison Evison, Pendo Daudi, Laura Youngson, Jennifer Way-Ogunsola, Payton Wilson, and Tata Lillis - we were inspired by the intersectional nature of problem solving when it comes to tackling period poverty and dignity.
We continue to support the Scottish Government to ensure they adhere to their promises to provide period dignity, giving our campaigning a tangible purpose and ensures we are helping to create long-term, systemic improvements to period poverty. We were recently invited to a round table discussion at Holyrood Parliament with Monica Lennon and other period activists to discuss how we move forward to ensure the Free Provisions Bill can be implemented across the UK.
Period dignity is a human right.
